2023 stands out as an exceptional year. Despite the market and its challenges, we exceeded our most ambitious affordable housing goals ever — highlighted in Kevin’s volume announcement and our news release. And we efficiently hit these goals, staying true to our strategy of optimizing our cap.

It takes a lot to achieve this: partnership, commitment, grit, ingenuity, trust. Hard work and teamwork. Important moments where we found our cadence and all pulled together, in sync, to cross the finish line.

Our team is so pleased to announce our top lenders and Mission Makers for 2023. But first, I’d like to touch on a few important ways all of us, working together, made an impact — far and wide:

  • We financed nearly half a million rental units — the vast majority (92%) affordable at or below 120% area median income.
  • We provided critical stability and liquidity to the multifamily market — with GSE market share at 58% in the first half of the year.
  • Targeted Affordable Housing had its second largest funding year ever in such a challenging time.
  • We funded a record $2.6 billion in forward conversions, adding more than 21,000 newly constructed or rehabilitated affordable units to the market.
  • 88% of our Small Balance Loans were mission-driven workforce housing.
  • Nationwide, our Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) equity program helped underserved people and communities:

In Chicago, that meant supportive housing for homeless veterans. In San Jose, California, we invested in the Rapid Rehousing Program for the first time. And, to house California farmworkers, we made our first equity investment in a Colonia community near the border.

Thank you all for your partnership. In so many ways, WE helped make home possible.
